Itinerary

We try to give you an impression of the planned route, but changes are always possible if you have special wishes.

7-Day Trip

After you made the transit to the Marina del Sur, you will have some time to inspect your catamaran. Soon after, we leave, heading south. The first anchorage is near Calbuco. The next morning we sail between some small islands with a general direction of SE. De vulcanos "Calbuco" and "Osorno" are visible most of the time. Arriving in a small bay near Buill we are anchoring for the night. The next destination is the island Quehui. On our way we sail along smaller islands with poetic names as Chaulinec, Ichuac and Apiapo. The village of Los Angeles, 800 inhabitants, has a few smal shops, a wooden church and a pleasant bar to enjoy a cold beer in its garden. Several different ways are possible to sail to Mechuque, either between lots of islands or a track outside. The fishing village is particularly attractive as the houses are built on stils (palafitos). Next we pass the Golfo de Ancud again to arrive at Llancahue. On the beach you can find lots of clams and mussels for a fine meal. Hotsprings are also closeby. On our way to Puerto Montt we sail along the south shore of a peninsula and enter the Seno Reloncavi. The last night is planned on the island of Puluque. Unfortunately we are already on our last day, a short trip will bring us back to the Marina.

Laguna San Rafael

is about 320 seamiles south of Pto.Montt. A huge glacier ends in the lagoon, depositing many peaces of floting ice. Among it you will see dolfins, penguins and sea-lions. On the trip south we try to visit the most interesting places. First Calbuco, founded by the Spanish in 1604, then Apiapo, a quiet island and San Pedro, at the southeastern tip of Chiloe. Passing the Golfo Corcovado we reach Melinka, an other small fishing town. As we enter the Canal Moraleda the timeschedule will be determined by the tide. Strong currents are common but sufficient safe spots to anchor are available. In this area different types of whales show up regularly. On the sixth day we should arrive at the lagoon. There is enough time to have an extended look. To pass the night we enter a very small sideriver to be protected from the ice. On the back trip we will sail different channels and visit other anchorages. There are many cascades to impress you. One of the many beautyful hotsprings will be visited also. Places like Tongbac and Queilen will stay in your memory for a long time. After more than two weeks of sailing in one of the best cruising grounds in the world this experience gets to the end in the Marina del Sur.
